Isaiah 11:9 "None will harm or destroy another on My entire holy mountain, for the land will be as full of the knowledge of the LORD as the sea is filled with water." (HCSB)
It is very clear that we as people are often harming and destroying one another as this verse says. We destroy one another in our homes with our words and we destroy one another with our anger and slander wherever other people are in the equation. Your help in all of your conflict does not come from a good example, a list of instructions, or even a better situation but it comes from the very presence of God! Christian, what is this about and what is this constant battle we have with others to point us to? We see here that our ability to live in peace with one another to the glory of God comes on God ’s holy mountain, that is to say the place where God is dwelling. In scripture God ’s holy mountain is simply a term used to speak of where God dwells. Consider this believer, peace in life does not come from a philosophy or set of rules but from intimacy with God! Your help in all of your conflict does not come from a good example, a list of instructions, or even a better situation but it comes from the very presence of God! What we need most as people is to exist in nearness to God and if you are in Christ you are already near to God. God is the only holy, the only good, the only lovely person and so it is that if we are going to live at peace with others we need to realize that this can only occur when God lives His own life through us through His Holy Spirit making us His dwelling place. Stop looking to the next book on how to gain victory by five things to do, stop looking to the next theological book on anger and peace, The Kingdom of God is not one of talk, talk of ideas and things to do, no the Kingdom God is one of power, the power of God’s intimate presence. stop looking to sermons about being nice and kind to others, stop looking to messages about not doing bad things and start celebrating the foundational truth that God changes your relationships by His very presence in you by the Spirit. The Kingdom of God is not one of talk, talk of ideas and things to do, no the Kingdom God is one of power, the power of God’s intimate presence. God changes us by making our souls His home so that His holiness would radiate through us through intimacy, through Him, and not anything else.
But there is something else important here about what we need to overcome and be freed from our sinful conflicts and it is simply knowledge of the Lord. You see that harm and destruction is removed by the world having a fullness of knowledge of God. This is not head-knowledge but it is a knowledge of intimacy and love. Have you ever considered this that what you need most in your great difficulties is a sweet intimacy with your heavenly Father through Christ? You see it is only when we are captivated with the beauty of a Away with all of man’s advice and agendas as to how to live victoriously and have better relationships, away with all the moral pep talks about being nice, away with all the guilt and shame, manipulative speeches about needing to do more, away with them!God who is infinitely wonderful and satisfying that we will not be obsessed with what people can offer us or what people cannot offer us. We need to love someone who is lovelier than everyone else more than anything else. We were made to be holy as much as we are enjoying and delighting in a God who has made Himself known to us in the saving work of His Son. We were made to overcome our relational difficulties through relating more intimately and knowing more sweetly about the God who saved us. Where do you go, Christian, when your marriages are crumbling and your friendships are bitter and the way you relate to your kids is miserable? Our text says it clearly here that we are to seek to intimately know and delight ourselves in the God who is near, the God who has made us His home, the God who has lived perfectly for us and died for us that we would be able to have Him near and draw near to Him. Don’t seek for wholeness of life outside of Christ! Christ is life! You exist in Christ, you are everything you need to be in Him and Him alone! Away with all of man’s advice and agendas as to how to live victoriously and have better relationships, away with all the moral pep talks about being nice, away with all the guilt and shame, manipulative speeches about needing to do more, away with them! And as we say away with that we say come Lord Jesus who has already come to me and made me His home and let me walk with you in more intimacy, let me enjoy more of your love in fellowship, let me see more of how wonderful you are, let me experience how sweet it is to be near you, let me be with you in life by faith, let me be filled with a heart-knowledge of you as the waters fill the sea and let me never think that this task to know you is up to me but may I remember that I can know you because you know me and have already come to me in Christ! Amen.
