John 21:1 "After this, Jesus revealed Himself again to His disciples by the Sea of Tiberias. He revealed Himself in this way:" (HCSB)
Isn’t this truth wonderful that Jesus is a Savior who reveals Himself to us? He does not leave us guessing and searching for what kind of a person He is, no, He reveals Himself. He doesn’t have us go on pilgrimages and profound spiritual journeys but He simply comes to us to make Himself known. He does not say, "You must be wise and intelligent to know me." No, He reveals Himself to us, He pursues us, He tells us of Himself as a parent to his children. We do not have a Jesus who leaves us in the dark as to who He is and how He feels. No we have a revealing Savior who makes His loveliness known to us. Christian, when you are struggling to find purpose and clarity and direction in your life do not go anywhere else but here: God has made Himself known"Even when we are running from you because we doubt the abundance of your grace you are still pursuing us! Jesus reveals Himself in this way!" to you already in Jesus and to live is indeed Christ!
But we see something else here which is most significant. Not only that He, as a friend, brother, and husband reveals things to us but we see here also what He reveals. The text says "He revealed Himself in this way", that is to say in a unique manner. Here we have the disciples recently abandoning Christ at His crucifixion and yet Christ pursues them, affirms His ongoing love for them. He the Lord of creation, the King of glory cooks for them and has them sit down and eat what He has prepared! Amazing! What do you want us to know Jesus? You want us to know that in our worst moments, our greatest denials of Jesus, you are the One who never ceases to pursue us in love, who never ceases to serve and care for us! Even when we are running from you because we doubt the abundance of your grace you are still pursuing us! Jesus reveals Himself in this way! No moment of shaming and scorn before we are able to be restored but you prepare a meal for us and tell us eat and enjoy your company! Christian, this is Jesus who tells you always come and eat and drink at the table of the gospel in your sins!
Not only that, but Jesus reveals to us that He will always be generous and willing to share of Himself in all of your lack. Notice in the account here the disciples were no longer catching fish and Jesus again miraculously provides abundantly. It is amazing that Christ reveals Himself like this, that He allows us to see how empty our efforts are so that He by His grace can be seen as more than sufficient. "He is delighted to supply all of your needs in Himself through His cross work so stop delighting in how little you need Jesus and begin to cherish and glory in being sustained by the power of grace!"They had just denied Christ and were now attempting to do things and Jesus says to them, "Men, I am still the person who becomes all things to you and for you no matter how lacking and how pathetic you are." Christian, all of your excuses are silenced because Jesus has revealed Himself to us in this way. You say, "Oh, I am unrighteous," Christ says, "yes, but I have been made your righteousness." You say, "I have no desires to do this Christian life anymore," and Jesus says, "Yes, but I have given you a new heart and I am the one working in you to will." You say, "I am tired and cannot do this anymore," and Christ says, "Yes, and you are to be strengthened in me not in your strength." You say, "Yes, but I am so simple and feel like I know nothing," and Christ says, "Yes but I have become your wisdom and eternal life is to know me in love and I have made myself known to you in love." Christian, Jesus has revealed Himself to you in this way! He is delighted to supply all of your needs in Himself through His cross work so stop delighting in how little you need Jesus and begin to cherish and glory in being sustained by the power of grace!
